The Indus Valley Civilization (c. 2600–1900 BCE) was among the world’s earliest urban societies. Its cities were highly organized, its craftsmanship was refined, and its social systems were remarkably advanced. Even after the civilization declined, its influence continued to shape South Asian culture, technology, and social organization.
Since the Indus script remains undeciphered, most of what we understand about its legacy comes from archaeological evidence, continuity in later cultural traditions, and references in later historical texts.
