The Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental (M.A.O.) College was founded in 1875 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as part of his broader movement to modernize and reform Muslim education in India after the 1857 revolt. Inspired by Oxford and Cambridge, Sir Syed aimed to blend Western scientific education with Islamic cultural values, believing that modern learning was essential for the progress of Indian Muslims.
