John Constable was a famous English landscape painter and one of the leading figures of the Romantic movement in art. He is best known for his realistic and emotional depictions of the English countryside, especially scenes from his native Suffolk. Unlike many artists of his time, Constable painted nature as he truly saw it, not as an idealized or imagined landscape.
